

Preceded by loving husband, Bill; parents, Alvin and Olga; and granddaughter, Jennifer Waymire.
Survived by son, Tom (Kathy) Alden; daughter, Joan (John) Blomlie; grandchildren, Jon Swenson, Queen Swenson, Erik (Gina) Swenson, Beth (Jason) Hamen, Alexander Alden, and Erin (Jake) Olson; and great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Garret, Mitchell, Rachel, Serena, Alicia, William, Gannon, Grier, Mason, Liam, Eilee, and Brant.
Alice was an only child, but never lonely. She never met a “stranger”, and always greeted everyone with her “Grandma Handshake”. Grandkids loved her games, jokes, songs, and sense of humor. They also loved camping and fishing with Grandpa and Grandma. She was known for her honesty, empathy, gratitude, and service to others. Although working full time, she volunteered for numerous organizations, mostly involving children.
Alice was voted Most Athletic in Washburn HS. She won the “Silver Skates Derby” speed skating at Powderhorn PK. She loved sports, but couldn’t afford college where she wanted to major in Physical Education. Instead, she attended secretarial training, and became a school clerk for $80 a month.
In 1939 she went to California to see her long time sweetheart, the best man in the world, Bill Alden. They decided to get married. Her parents found out later through the “grapevine”.
Alice was strong in Faith She said living to almost 104 was by God’s Blessing, exercise, healthy diet, positive attitude, and good genetics. She lived independently until 2 weeks ago when she broke her ankle.
For 60 years she and Bill attended Nokomis Heights Church. Since 2003 she attended Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley.
Private inurnment at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lake Wapogasset Bible Camp, Amery, WI.
