

Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, died Tuesday, November 9th, 2010 of complications due to a ruptured abdominal aneurysm.
He was born February 17th, 1932 to Bob and Pearl (Lang) Dowson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dale was preceded in death by his parents. Much of Dale’s childhood was spent at the family farm in Milaca, MN as well as the family home in Minneapolis. He grew up in a very close knit family and had many happy memories of his extended family. In 1955 Dale married the love of his life Marlene Beriou. They had three daughters, Debbie (Terry) Enger of Plymouth, MN, Diane (Rick) Sachse of North Oaks, MN and Linda (Paul) Pugsley of Fridley, MN, and one son, Bob Dowson (Bob Brown) of Laguna Niguel, CA. Dale had tremendous affection for his seven grandchildren, Josh (Katie), Jake, and Jenna Enger, Ryan and Krista Pugsley, Ellie and Tanner Sachse. Dale is also survived by one brother Jim (Shirley) Dowson of Walker, MN.
Dale served honorably in the Army during the Korean conflict as a Military Police Officer; he was discharged in 1953. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War. In 1990 Dale retired as a Lieutenant for the Minneapolis Police Department after 30 years of service. He received many commendations for outstanding service to his community and his department. His career accomplishments included multiple certifications from the Minnesota Attorney General, the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Governmental Services and the University of Minnesota. He was known for his investigative work as Lieutenant for multiple departments throughout his career and he was an honorary Deputy Sheriff of the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. In 1967 he was honored as the East Side Police Officer of the Year. He was active in many law enforcement organizations including the Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association. He was also active in numerous civic organizations throughout his lifetime.
Dale was an avid outdoorsman. His passion in his younger days was taking his family camping in Northern Minnesota. Together, they spent many happy times on the Gunflint trail where cherished memories will last forever. In his retirement years he loved spending time at the cabin with his grandchildren and in California with his son. He was fiercely loyal to his wife, children and grandchildren; he was a compassionate father who had a gentle spirit and a supportive nature. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him.
