Laurel Ann Bredesen, age 58, passed away peacefully in Maplewood, MN, on February 23, 2026. Born on December 6, 1967, Laurel was the daughter of Jo Bredesen and John (Betsy Halpern) Bredesen.
Born with profound disabilities, Laurel had limited speech but a remarkable ability to communicate and connect with others. She was an extrovert who loved people, music, and an audience. Delighting in karaoke sing-alongs, she enjoyed watching Barney, and cheering for Steve Harvey on Family Feud. Laurel had a bright, sweet nature and a spirited personality, and was always clear about what she wanted.
For many years, Laurel lived at Carver House, part of The Phoenix Residence community in Maplewood, MN. There, she formed deep and lasting relationships with the caregivers and residents who shared daily life with her. Affectionately known as the “Queen of Carver,” Laurel brought her personality and laughter to the home she shared with others.
She is survived by her parents; her sister, Sandra (Stephen) Burrowes; and her brother, John (Joyce) Bredesen, Jr., along with her nieces and nephews, Kelsey Bredesen, Erik Bredesen, Nissa Bredesen, Spencer Burrowes, and Graham Burrowes and great-niece Raia Marfell.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at Carver House for their exceptional care, compassion, and the genuine love they showed Laurel. For many years, they were not only her caregivers but also her extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Avenue United Methodist Church, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Phoenix Residence to support the community that meant so much to Laurel and her family.
