

May Stiles Johnson Hostetter, age 88 of Roseville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2010. She was born July 18, 1922 in Denver, Colorado. After graduating from Colorado State University in home economics and dietetics, May received an MS degree in nutrition at Michigan State University and taught at both institutions. In addition, she taught at junior colleges, high schools and worked as a clinical dietician at hospitals in Colorado, Michigan and Wisconsin. May was an avid skier, tennis champion, mountain climber, traveler, accomplished musician, volunteer, and an inspiring mother, grandmother and friend. She taught all her children how to make and appreciate great pie crust, and wowed her grandchildren with tales of rappelling down the face of her college dormitory after curfew. She was a longtime member of Bethel Congregational Church in Beaverton, Oregon. In 1953 May married Paul H. Johnson, Jr. and lived in Michigan and Wisconsin. Paul died in 1971. She married Robert D. Hostetter in 1978 and lived in Beaverton, Oregon until Robert's death in 2007. May moved to Minnesota in 2008. Survivors include daughters, Linda Johnson (Bob Julian) of Shoreview, Minnesota and Barbara Behnke (Jim) of Salt Lake City, Utah, son, Richard Johnson (Barbara) of River Falls, Wisconsin, step-children, Valerie Hollaender (Ron) of Chicago, Illinois, Glen Hostetter (Kris) of Vancouver, Washington and Brenda Lichtenberger (Steve) of Beaverton, Oregon, six grandchildren, and her sister, Beth Leffingwell of Anchorage, Alaska. A brother, Bert Stiles, writer and pilot, died in World War II. Memorial Mass at 5:15 PM on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 211 East Division, River Falls, Wisconsin (715) 425-1870.
