Bob earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from South Dakota State College, a foundation that reflected his disciplined mind and steady determination. Over the course of his career, Bob worked for Remington Rand Univac, Data Display Corporation, and Control Data Corporation. He retired from Control Data in 1960, closing a professional chapter marked by several personal achievements, which even included a United States Patent in 1986.
Bob married Lorna in Brookings, SD, in 1961. Shortly after marriage, they welcomed one son, Gary, and one daughter, Karen, into their lives.
A thoughtful and curious man, Bob maintained a lifelong interest in the unexplained: he was a member of the Minnesota Mutual UFO Network-- an active organization that investigates UFO sightings--and he produced the long-running show “UFOs and the Paranormal” for local community TV. In a testament to his adventurous spirit, in 1986 Bob flew a single-engine Mooney aircraft from Minnesota all the way to Scotland.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter-in-law Meggie Schultz (Davis).
Bob is survived by his wife, Lorna Ann Schultz; brother Richard (Carole) Schultz of Montrose, CO; son Gary Schultz of Spring Lake Park, MN; daughter Karen (Terry) Layne of Winfield, WV; grandchildren Tami McCarthy of Mukilteo, WA, Kimi (Chuck) Skaggs of Puyallup, WA, Jessica Layne (Milt Perry) of Chillicothe, OH, and Amber Layne of Dunbar, WV; and great grandchildren Austin and Cody Skaggs of Puyallup, WA.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Sunset Kapala Glodek Funeral Home, Minneapolis, at 1:00 pm with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will be held following the service at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis.
