Wanda Faye Allen was born on March 27, 1932, in Arlington, South Dakota, and passed away on January 9, 2026, at the age of 93, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was born to her parents, Bernard and Bella (Larson) Tvedt. After the death of her mother, Bella, during Wanda’s childhood, she was raised by her father, Bernard Tvedt, and her stepmother and aunt, Ollie Tvedt. Wanda grew up with her older brother, Wallace, on the family farm in South Dakota. She attended rural Bangor Township No. 2 School and graduated from Sinai High School.
Wanda was known for her strength and kindness from an early age. As a child, she was quick to help others and would give her coat to someone who needed it. As a teenager, she survived polio, an experience that required resilience and determination.
In her early life and during her first marriage to Shane T. Wyrostek Sr., Wanda spent many weekends at El Rancho Mañana with her family. During these years, she developed a lasting appreciation for animals, especially farm dogs and horses, and enjoyed time spent on the ranch.
Before a serious accident in 1977 caused her to lose her sight, Wanda worked as an ER nurse, ICU nurse, and surgical nurse. She was dedicated to her work and known for her steady presence and concern for patients. Throughout her life, she faced many challenges and met them with perseverance.
Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Shane T. Wyrostek II (November 2, 1960 – August 30, 1986), and her older brother, Wallace Tvedt (March 16, 1928 – August 30, 2023).
She is survived by her husband, Justin Mark Allen. They shared a strong and supportive marriage and remained committed to one another through the years.
She is also survived by her granddaughter, Shelby LeeAnn Blades (née Wyrostek), and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kuch (née Thompson), both of whom were important parts of her life.
Wanda had a long association with The Meditation Center. She and Justin met there, and Wanda later worked at the Center for many years. She also traveled to India with a group from The Meditation Center.
Wanda and Justin enjoyed spending time outdoors together and shared interests in hiking, camping, and exploring.
Family was central to Wanda’s life. She valued time spent at home and especially enjoyed sitting in the backyard with flowers nearby, having a cup of coffee and a cookie, and being surrounded by family, friends, and dogs.
Wanda will be remembered by those who knew her for her strength, generosity, and steady presence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Meditation Center in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and share their memories.
