Gary went to Central Colchester High School in Onslow, NS where he was a star athlete in track and field having won numerous medals and also being asked to try out for the Olympic team. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets which led him to follow his passion to the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 8, 1960 and was a trained radio operator. Gary met his wife Robin during a bowling event while stationed at RCAF Station Richmond, BC. Gary was posted to numerous locations including US Air Force Base, Ramstein Germany and several other bases all across Canada. He also spent 6 months in Israel on a peace keeping mission in 1977. Gary retired from the RCAF in July 1987 and eventually settling in Abbotsford, BC. To keep busy, Gary owned his own gardening business and followed that up by 13 years with the BC Corps of Commissionaires, finally retiring for good in September 2009.
Dad was an avid sportsman, playing fast pitch, curling, darts, ice hockey, and too many other organized sports to mention. He loved camping and road trips, enjoyed hunting and fly fishing, having driven many miles on back country roads in search of a quiet lake to launch his belly boat. Gary was into researching the family history and joined ancestry genealogy. He spent countless hours reading over information and has the family tree go as far as back as 1502 Scotland, and he met many new relatives on line through this process. Gary was known as a kind and wonderful man who would help out if he could. He will be missed dearly by his family, many friends and his coffee crew.
