Emlyn Isabella Drew

With sadness we share the passing of our mother Emlyn (Emily) Isabella Drew (née Sproule), age 90 of Mission, B.C. Mom passed peacefully on August 31, 2016 at Mission Memorial Hospital having exhausted all her body & spirit could provide in her unconditional caring for her "chicks". Born on Sept. 25, 1925 at Durban, Manitoba to Charles Bird Sproule and Grace Olive Lee Rolls she was predeceased by her brother Jim Sproule and cousin Cora Lindmark. Mom married Robert (Bob) Drew on May 7, 1945 sharing 55 years of marriage in Mission and Burnaby until Dad’s passing in 2000. Survived by children Maurice Drew (Janet), Brian Drew (Dawn), Ralph Drew (Carol), Bruce Drew (Joan), Keith Drew (Lori) and Maureen Haddock (Howard), 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Mom moved to Abbotsford in 1930 and lived in Abbotsford/Matsqui/Mission where she attended school and worked. In 1950 Mom & Dad moved to Burnaby to raise their family. An amazing mom and mentor, she not only raised her children (chicks) but played second mom to many boarders and friends of her children. She was active in the local PTA, UCW of the United Church of Canada, sold Avon for 10 years and worked briefly at MacDonald's to earn a few extra travel dollars. Mom was a member of St. Andrews United Church in Mission since moving back in 1978 and was a 35 year member of the Mission Hospital Auxiliary and while healthy was an active worker at The Cottage thrift store and the information kiosk and gift shop at the hospital. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor always enjoying a good joke or poke which her family gladly provided. She loved to garden and travel with friends and family. The bridge club of 40 years was at the heart of her and Dad's social and travel life.

Private internment to be held for the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Celebration of life to be held on September 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at All Saints Anglican Church, 33077 Second Ave., Mission, B.C. with refreshments to follow.
