Jeremie Alexander (Michaelis) Fontaine was born Oct. 15, 1975 in Richmond B.C. He moved with his parents to Mission B.C. when he was 3 years old, and when he was of school age, attended West Heights Elementary School. During this time Jeremie did very well academically and enjoyed being a pitcher in little league baseball and was very enthusiastic about life. As a teenager he attended Ecole Mission Secondary School where he achieved academic excellence, tutored students and enjoyed volleyball, track and field, skiing, hiking, swimming and other sports. After graduating in 1993, Jeremie devoted his time volunteering at Christine Morrison Elementary School tutoring students, assisted in coaching volleyball and track and field, was a member of the Parent Advisory Council and also became a camp counselor. Thereafter Jeremie decided to continue his education and graduated with a diploma in accounting from UFV in 1998. In the fall of 1999 he went to Holland as an Au Pair looking after a family with two young children. After the affects of 911 Jer felt the urge to serve his country and enlisted as an Ordinary Seaman in the Canadian Navy on Mar.7, 2002. During his service Jer received his diploma in Electronic Engineering in 2005 from the Memorial University of Newfoundland and on Jan. 21 was awarded the honorable Detachment Commanders Award for leadership, integrity and academic excellence as voted by his peers and instructors. While in the Navy he was able to see much of the east coast of Canada and eventually in 2005 ended up stationed and resided in Victoria B.C. In January 2008 he left the navy, but still resided in Victoria where he became actively involved in his community, did some travelling and in the fall of 2009 attended the University of Victoria in pursuit of his Bachelor of Science Degree with a Statistics Major, where all the while maintaining high grades. This June 11th, Jeremie and his academic achievement were honored and he was awarded his BSc Degree by UVIC posthumously. On March 18, 2012 Jeremie went peacefully in his sleep but not without leaving behind a huge mark in this world. Jer has touched so many with all the love, respect and compassion that he has shown everyone that he knew or had encountered during his lifetime. Jer and his love of life, will shine through many, and memories of him will bring much joy to those who know him. Jeremie always tried to live his life to the fullest. Jeremie said he had a great life and lived it with absolutely no regrets…..Cheers Jer! He is greatly loved and missed by many family members and friends and always will be.
