It's hard to believe that it's been five years since your passing. I think about you often and have fond memories of my life while still in your keeping. I miss you ♥️

On November 30th, we remembered you as a loving and sweet Papa, and we marked your spot during this special day with your framed photo. Blue hydrangeas accompanied your beautiful granddaughter down the aisle, honouring your memory. You are never far from our daily thoughts. We love you so.

Happy Father's Day ❤️ Today I am remembering happy times when you were still with us.

Remembering what would have been your 91st birthday tomorrow. I think about you every day. No one can erase the love or the memories we shared.

Two years have passed since you left us. I was blessed to have you as a father as were my sons to have you as a grandfather. I remember you with love.

It has been almost a year since we lost the patriarch of our family. I miss you Dad.  I know I will see you again. Rest in peace.

I first met Mr. Hilton in downtown Mission as a young boy with my father, Tok. I was able to reconnect with him last spring through my life partner, Pamela. In 2017, after my father had passed, Pam reached out to me to offer condolences and share kind words about my father. Pam shared with me that her father told her he'd just thought of my father, Tok, days before he received the news of his passing. This really touched me and I never forgot this each time I was in John’s presence.
This tells a lot about our pioneers in Mission and how they carried a genuine respect for one another. Even though our
world is constantly changing around us,
they remembered each other and were happy to share stories of
how Mission was a thriving, progressive community throughout the 1950's -1980's. John was one of our innovative pioneers who contributed to many facets of community life. John was a well known sponsor of the Mission Soap Box Derby.
He and I often discussed many of our past iconic figures
who were larger than life in which he himself was one. He always made a point to ask how council was and showed genuine interest in my involvement.
Through my eyes as a city councillor with the District of Mission, John's work and contribution in and outside the field of construction and engineering should not and will not be forgotten. He was a man of industry and vision. From being the first contractor to plan & build subdivisions in Mission to the custom built, handcrafted doors and windows of what is now LA Fusion. John also expanded his craft province wide with other big ticket projects. Our last best day together was late October when I’d featured John on social media in bringing recognition to our community leaders. When I came into the room, John was ready to start and greeted me with a large, energetic smile. Pam was so pleased to see this as his smiles had become few and far between. He thanked me once we wrapped up his story. Thank you, John, for your contribution to Mission. 

John was a wonderful father in law and he was a great grandfather to both of my children.  He would pop by our house in Greendale and tell me to get my shoes on and take me out to job sites he was bidding on.  We would sit at the house and enjoy our tea and have fun conversations.  Till we meet again.....

I am John’s youngest daughter, his 40th birthday gift who arrived 6 days late.  It has been my honoured privilege to spend each day of the past 4 years with you. Always waiting on my arrival with engaging conversation and your brilliant inquiries.  You loved to enjoy a bowl of soup and a mug of hot chocolate. Each day you asked if I’d brought this for you which I always did. We would hold hands and watch TV together sometimes. Westerns and John Wayne’s in  black and white were your first choice. Zane Gray was your absolute favourite from the novels you read as a boy.
You told me your first love was Elizabeth Taylor after watching  National Velvet at the Innisfal Movie House when you were 11 years old. You saw Mom sitting on a bench at a Dewdney Hall dance years later she immediately reminded you of Liz with her beautiful face and dark hair. You pointed towards Mom and told your brother,  George and friend, Gordon, that you were “going to marry that girl”. You did just that  and gave us all such a wonderful, full life. 
We feel so lost without you will carry the sorrow of your absence all of our days. You loved us wholeheartedly and bestowed your brilliance and guidance within us to flourish in your light the rest of our days. We all love you so so much, rest well,  my Daddy, for I will always treasure your memory.

I had the honour of meeting John through his daughters Cheryl and Pamela. John would greet you with a big smile and a twinkle in his eye. My deepest condolences to his family. Cherish all of the great memories of John!

We can remember talking with uncle John on a few locations. Science and the wonder of the world were popular subjects. He enjoyed coversation and was very interesting to visit. We will miss that.

I worked for John  years ago doing office work. A very nice man . Very hard working and was always so pleasant and great to work with. My condolences to Shirley and all his family for their loss.🙏

Putting up with me when I would be at theirs with my childhood best friend Pam (their youngest daughter) causing havoc. A strong family man. 

Papa used to drive Meghan and I to our activities as young girls and always welcomed me into his home with open arms. Rest in peace ❤️

I am John's eldest daughter, Cheryl.  I am writing this on behalf of my husband Dennis and myself. My fondest memory of my father is when he walked me to school on the first day of grade one. I can still feel his large hand holding my small one. It was a good day. Dennis and I would like to thank our friends and extended family for their understanding, love and support. Rest in peace 🙏
