Mom's fondest childhood memories were camping with family, cousins and grandparents at White Rock and visiting her grandparents in Silverdale. At the young age of 16, Mom quit school and headed for the big city of Burnaby to gain employment working at BC Tel (The Boot as everyone called it), she eventually transferred to Abbotsford in '59 and continued there to complete 37 years of service.
Mom met Dad in February of '56 at a dance in Stave Falls and after a three-year courtship they were married on February 27th, '59. As newlyweds, Mom and Dad lived in a tiny three-room cabin across the road from the farm, and when I say tiny cabin I mean a kitchen, a bedroom and a living room...with the bathroom being outside....so I am sure you can guess what the #1 item was on Dad's first Honey-Do-List. In the mid 60's, they then moved to their longtime home on the farm. In November of '61, I (Michele) was born, sadly my twin sister Kimberley Joy was stillborn. Chris arrived in February of '64, followed by Shauna in April of '71.
Mom and Dad did a fair amount of traveling, including trips to the United Kingdom, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, often with good friends Harry and Sue Bryant. Fun times were also spent in Mexico with Doug and Nessie Cameron and trips to Cuba, the Cook Islands, Hong Kong and Hawaii and several cruises with family members. And we mustn't forget the many road trips with sisters Auntie Sharon and Auntie Renie, checking out every thrift store they could find along the way; as well as her many adventures with Nessie. Mom and Dad would also spend two or three of the winter months in Yuma, Arizona where they formed many more friendships.
For many years Mom happily planned the family's annual May long weekend fishing trip; their fifth wheel subbing as the Chuck Wagon. First thing every morning Mom would provide a heaping pot of porridge for 30+ people, and later in the day a large pot of homemade soup or stew, which she had made weeks before and froze in ice cream pails. Then in the evenings the chuck wagon sink would serve as a bath for some of the little ones.
In the early years Mom and Dad would travel with our boys on many memorable fishing excursions, Disneyland and multiple Seattle Mariners games. Then a few years later, Mom would take the younger grandchildren on adventures to Puerto Vallarta, Disneyland, Cancun and Dominican. And who could forget the many Pentictons in July, starting off with Mom, Shauna, Joseph, Alexandrea and Gabrielle, soon evolving into all the Nanas, Grandmas, GG's, Aunties, Cousins, and friends; taking over most of the Riverside Motel.
In Mom's downtime she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, petti-point as well as any kind of card game; and back in the day she always took pleasure in her birthday club get-togethers and bowling every Thursday night. Mom also enjoyed Crokinole, cards, trivia and of course happy hour with her Carrington pals.
Mom was a down-to-earth person who always looked on the bright side even when things were dark and gloomy. If anyone ever had a question about the family or weren't quite sure of a name, date or place; Mom usually always had the answer, whether it be on the Clark, Lobb or Davies side of the family. Mom was the may-tree-arch of our family and will be missed more than words can say.
