Ronald Gordon Arnold

30 octobre 19535 octobre 2021

Ronald Gordon Arnold, 67, of Mission, BC passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2021 at Christine Morrison Hospice, after a brave battle with ALS. He was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, of 47 years; his children, Sara (Mario), Matthew (Chantelle), Grant (Isabel), Kate (Ryan); his 5 grandchildren, Allie, Sofia, Lily, Owen and Adrian; his siblings, Shirley, Donna, Gary, Andy (Carolyn), Stewart (Cheryl), and Kathy; his mother-in-law, Colleen, and many nieces and nephews.

Ron was born in Elk Point, Alberta, on October 30th, 1953 to George and Alice Arnold. He grew up in Victoria, BC and was the eldest of 7 children. During his childhood he was involved in Scouts, playing drums, fishing with his dad and brothers, and attending youth group at First United Church. This is where he met his wife, Eileen. They settled in Mission where they raised their 4 children.

Ron was a family man, who had many passions. Ron loved working with wood as he was a hardworking planerman millwright. He took on many projects, including building his own home, a canoe, many decks and furniture for his children. His work was always to perfection and personal.

Ron was an inquisitive learner and was always watching documentaries about the natural and human world. He used his artistic abilities to drum, draw, create pancake characters and transform unwanted pumpkins into epic faces. Ron’s imagination instilled joy in people. He passed along memories and knowledge by telling scenic stories. Ron welcomed everyone into his home where he made them feel like family.

Due to covid restrictions a private family Memorial Service will be held on October 30th, 2021 at St. Andrews United Church in Mission. A Zoom link will be available upon request.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Christine Morrison Mission Hospice in support of Ron’s care during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to B.C. Children’s Hospital or the Mission Hospice Society - Christine Morrison Hospice Programs.

So sad to hear of Ron's passing. Ron and I grew up together on Prior St in Victoria and went to school at Victoria High....we were neighbours. I can recall spending many hours in his room listening to every new Doors album that came out with Ron drumming to songs. Ron and I spent many summer hours just hanging out and goofing around, Richard

Ron and I were like kindred spirits..we completely understood each other. One time at Bowen, we sat on the deck and listened to The Arrogant Worms and laughed until we cried! It was so fun and so simple yet we had such an awesome time. Ron was the best and I can’t wait until we meet again..lots and lots of love always for him💕💕💕💕💕💕

I first met Ron at a family birthday party for Kathy on my very first night in Victoria. He was the first person at the party to approach me and introduce himself, welcomed me into the family space, and then showed me his sense of humour by Bantering movie quotes with me from Steve Martin's The Jerk. That's All I need is .....and my thermos. When I told him I moved out with just a few things.
