It is with heavy but grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Walter after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer disease on February 14, 2026 in Valhaven Care Home, Abbotsford, BC. We are sad because we will miss our husband, father, grandfather, but we are grateful because we know that he is now resting in heaven in the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Walter was born in Colonsay, Sask to Benjamin and Margareta Koop mere minutes after his twin brother William (Bill). Walter was the youngest and last survivor of eight siblings: twins Franz and Henry, Margaret, twins Frank and Erna, Anne, and twin Bill. Walter leaves behind his wife Joan, his children Sylvia (son-in-law Rod), Raymond (daughter-in-law Elizabeth) and Abigail, his stepchildren Susan and Ken, along with four grandsons: Bryan and Jason, Jesse and Jamie, five step-grandchildren Nick, Trevor, Ashley, Dylan and Daniel; and five great grandchildren: Ayden, Payton, Ophelia, Taiya and Hanna.
During a long and fulfilling life journey Walter eventually moved with his wife Joan to Mission BC to settle into retirement. He bought a little old house which he renovated with his construction expertise, and there he and Joan lived a happy life. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, bicycle, taking long walks, curling, playing card games, and playing his guitar. Walter had a simple but deep relationship with his Lord and Saviour Jesus and loved singing the old hymns with four-part harmony.
We would like to thank the loving, compassionate team of nurses, care aides, and doctor at Valhaven Care Home. You are so much appreciated by Walter’s family.
