Evelyn Catherine Brennan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and caregiver on October 9, 2015. She was born in Chicago on March 11, 1925 to Mary and William Hauser, the fourth of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John and Al, and her sister Irene. She is survived by her brother, Walter, and her four children, Thomas, Carole, Janice and Terry. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Megan (Jon), Erica, Allison (Gary), Tom, Molly and Will. She has one great-grandchild, Sam. Evelyn grew up on the North side of Chicago in a Polish neighborhood. She attended Austin High School graduating during WW II. She supported the war effort as a “secretary” working for Frigid-Air Corporation. She was valued for her superior spelling and typing skills. She met her future husband, Raymond Joseph Brennan, at a dance when he asked her friend to dance. He then noticed Evelyn and changed his mind, and reached out his hand to her. They were married 6 months later, together every day until his death in March of 1976. Evelyn’s passion was her family. She was devoted to her husband, four children, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as her parents. She was a wonderful friend, never forgetting a birthday or an anniversary. She loved music and the Arts. Evelyn was able to leave on a trip at a moment’s notice. She was a skilled athlete. She never turned her back on someone in need. Her most important contribution was to her children; she made herself available, never judged, helping in any and every way imaginable whenever she was called upon. She remained a Mom among Moms until the last, comforting those around her throughout her journey to the next world. A Catholic liturgy will be celebrated in her honor at the San Fernando Mission Chapel at 10:30 on November 9th, 2015. The Chapel is located at 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd. in Mission Hills, California. She will join Raymond at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery adjacent to the mission garden. A celebration of her life will take place at 12:30 at the Odyssey Restaurant located at 15600 Odyssey Drive in Granada Hill, California. A special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice. We would also like to thank her loyal caregivers; Carmen, Vivian and Rowena. A remembrance can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
