Irene Alba Verdugo

Irene Alba Verdugo, affectionately known as "Grammy," was born in Pasadena California on February 18, 1921 and peacefully departed this life in her home on October 20, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Kinteen Alba and Carmen Alba.

She retired from San Fernando Hospital in 1971 as a Dietician.

On February 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Vincent Verdugo. From this union were born two children: Sylvia Verdugo and James Verdugo Jr.

"Grammy" as everyone knew and called her, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend. She had an immense passion for cooking her family’s favorite meals, which included Tortillas, Beans, Hamburger Soup, Pork Chops, and Dad’s special Pineapple upside-down Cake. Helping to raise everyone’s kids was her passion in life. Her unselfish and unwavering support of her family and friends will be sorely missed.

She leaves us to be with her husband of 72 years Jim (1922-2013). Her memory will be cherished by her devoted and loving children, Sylvia Ramirez (Verdugo) and her husband Roy Ramirez, James Verdugo Jr. and his wife Kim Verdugo; six grand children: Regina Flores, Daniel Verdugo, Nicolle Deng (Ramirez), Denise Ramirez, Rachel Verdugo, Cynthia Verdugo, great-grand children, Christopher Flores, Justin Flores, Joshua Deng, Nathaniel Torres, Trevor Deng, Charlotte Deng; brothers: Kinteen Alba Jr., Robert Alba, Daniel Alba, and Andy Alba; Sisters; Mary Medellin, Emily Alba, Helen (Nena) Mullen. Irene also leaves to cherish her memory, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister: Lupe Gomez, and Brothers Mike Alba, Ciprino (Soupie) Alba, William (Bill) Alba, Pedro (Pete) Alba.

A Visitation will be held on October 29, 2014 from 9:00am to 10:45am, with a celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, interment services at noon, at the San Fernando Cemetery, Mission Hills. Please join the family at a reception immediately following the interment.
