This beloved man was my best friends uncle. I am so sorry who was Luis Jesus Diaz friend and uncle

No quiero dejar de plasmar el sentimiento que ha lastimado nuestros corazones como familia, ni dejar pasar los recuerdos que se encajonan y siempre, toda mi vida en algún momento vienen a mi mente , aquellos recuerdos de alegría, que aunque escasos, bien disfrutados donde niños Luis por ser mayor siempre al frente de nuestros pocos andares,  y en mi visita a su hogar las mejores travesuras de mi niñez, "arrojar huevos a los vecinos", ya ni es secreto Luis, nunca se me olvida. Siendo cómplices de estos pequeños pero inolvidables grandes recuerdos.... Sepan que Luis fue un ejemplo y nunca paso desapercibido       por nuestras vidas..

Luis - was 18 when I met him.  He approached me with a simple: "I like your hat".  What's funny about that moment (for both of us), was that we were both developing photographs at Valley College's darkroom.  It was surreal and real.  The room was dimly lit by the light-bulbs of our enlargers ... an amber light played moon for us ... the gentle sound of running water tickled our ears ... and Luis's smile.   I have to thank the sunhat for being our introduction.  That moment sealed our quirky friendship and without my Luis life is certainly less quirky.  Love you Luis.

Familia Diaz,

Fue un placer haber conocido a Luis, o como yo le decia Bluis (por el color de sus ojos). Fue un ser muy querido no solo por mi, si no por mis padres y todos lo que lo conocieron. Tenia una personalidad inigualable.

 Estoy agradecida de que el me enseño apreciar la naturaleza, campamentos y diferentes tipos de musica. No solo por eso, si no porque cuando yo vivia en Berkeley, Luis iba a comprar la masa para tamales para mis padres todos los dias! Que lata!!Mas sinembargo el les ayudaba de muy buena fe y hasta le llevaba el pan de dulce favorito a mi mama! Super lindo!

 Luis, quiza tu cuerpo no este entre nosotros, pero tu seguiras vivo mientras te mantengamos en nuestros corazones y tenlo por seguro que personas como tu, dejan marca eterna. Gracias a Dios por permitir al señor Jesus y señora Maria por traer a Luis al mundo y prestarnolo unos años.

"Auque sabemos que en sus corazones, hay dolor por la partida de su hijo amado, estamos seguros de que en el cielo hay fiesta por la llegada de un nuevo angel al equipo celestial."  

Quiero que sepan que ustedes y Luis estan en mis oraciones; que los quiero mucho y como siempre les mando muchos abrazos.

I was stationed with Luis in '02-'03 in Korea. He was always so positive and had a smile on his face all the time. He laughed at everyone's jokes even when some of them weren't so good. If you asked for help he was always there and never expected anything in return. You never forget people like that. My prayers are with the family. He will be missed.

Luisito buenos dias, those where the words that I would greet you with every morning and you would always turn with a big smile. I'm truly going to miss you in the mornings and every day. Tus padres hicieron un hombre ejemplar de ti, que cualquier padre se llenaria de mucho orgullo llamarte hijo.

Luis was a good teammate and a great friend.  I always respected and wondered how he had a positive attitude even when we had to do things that didn't make sense to us (which happens a lot in the Army).  His attitude and sense of humor always made our jobs easier.

Your son was a very special person who touched all of our hearts at the Los Angeles Times. Luis combined a smart, intelligent mind with a kind, caring heart.  We were very fortunate to work with him these last four years. He will be truly missed. I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Diaz for sharing your son with the world. He was loved by everyone. All of us that went to Iraq with him cared for him and held him in the highest regard. He was like a brother to me and my heart still hurts. He was a shining example of how life should be lived,  happy and with the people you love.

 Como amigo que soy de Nancy, hermana de Luis, quiero mostrar mi apollo incondicional a Nancy y sus papas por que pasar por estos momentoa no es muy placentero, pero ojala dios les de resignacion para poder seguir adelante y recordar a Luis como la gran persona que fue, y de nuevo, les mando un fuerte abrazo a ti Nancy y familia

Luis, I believe that God needed you more than we do. I believe that you're going to watch out for us and watch over us. You are the epitome of how wonderful humanity can be: funny, charming, intelligent, kind, gentle...quiet strength. This isn't good-bye, just...see ya later. 
Mr. & Mrs. Diaz: you had a wonderful son who has left a positive impact on all of us. I will always be grateful that I knew him.

I got to know Luis almost 4 years ago at work. We both ran as a recreation and decided to train with Team LA Times for the Los Angeles Rock and Roll Half Marathon. I remember thinking to my self what a great job his parents did raising him. He was soft spoken, but when he said something you listened. He was polite and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. It seemed he was curious about life and approached it with eyes wide open. He laughed every time I tried to say something funny, so I would find myself saying things just to make him laugh...I will miss that most. I'm so sorry this happened to him and his family. The world is a darker place without him.

Luis was such a wonderful guy and his kindness will be greatly missed. His smile, his laugh was contagious.  You couldn't help but smile back.  He will be missed.  My prayers and condolences go out to the family.

My heartfelt prayers go out to Luis's family. I am glad I had the pleasure to get to know and work with him he will be sorely missed.

Luis was among a handful of my very favorite students over the years since I began teaching at Valerio Street School in 1986.  Everyone there adored him.  He was such a pleasure to teach, always courteous and polite, always cheerful and smiling, and had such amazing creativity, wit, & intelligence. I'll never forget the time he took a pad of yellow Post-its and created a moving cartoon, which could be viewed as you flip with your thumb through the pages. So clever! I hope that I was an inspiration for him in his love of nature, as I took Luis, with a small group of students, hiking once in the Santa Monica Mountains, and Luis loved it! Just thinking that he is gone is very difficult to fathom, but I hope to meet my beloved student, Luis, in Heaven someday. I send my deepest condolences and wish Luis' family strength, faith, and hope, as that is what Luis would have wanted.

Luis was a friend of my husband Edward. They were in Iraq together and remained friends through the years.Luis was one of our witnesses when we were married and visited us in the hospital when our son was born. He was always there for the important parts of our lives and will be missed immensely. You are gone too soon my friend. We will miss your company and I know Edward will miss the hikes and brotherly time you both spent together. I am grateful for your friendship.

It was a pleasure to work with Luis on the Travel section of The Times. He was kind-hearted and patient. He is missed.

My heartfelt prayers goes out to Luis' family at such a sad time. He was always so sweet and helpful whenever I needed anything from his department. He was such a wonderful person and will be dearly missed by all of us here at the LA Times. May God give you strength to deal with your loss.

I was always at peace with him. He never judged me, or had a harsh word. We just clicked. In high school we'd talk about everything and nothing on the phone, even though we'd hung out at school. It was the same as adults, with less frequency.  I was always learning something new about him. I've known him 20 years, and I feel like I could never know enough about him. I hope he knew how much he meant to me. And I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I will never forget the laughters we shared when "PAST DEADLINE" phone calls answered by Luis.  He was one of the few kind hearted people I come to know.  God bless your family.

Sincere condolences

Luis! You meant so much to me and I bet you didn't even know it. How many lunches did I owe you? Always getting me outta the jams I would put myself in. Thank you for always being so kind. You truly were so important. I am grateful to have worked with you.

I had the privilege of knowing Luis for a short time while working at the Los Angeles Times. He was a quiet soul, always with smile on his face. He had the gift of really listening to people, something that is truly lacking in today's society.Though I am no longer at the Times I am certain that he will be sorely missed by his co-workers, the days won't be quite as bright.

I had the good luck of knowing Luis, who was terrific to work with and a true friend. He was one of the few genuinely good-hearted people I've ever met -- and also one of the smartest. My deepest condolences to those closest to him and all those who will miss his intelligence and sense of humor. I know I will.

I am grateful to have known Luis and worked with him here at the Los Angeles Times. He was such a great guy. One in a million. My heart goes out to his family, whose hurt is shared by all who knew him.
