God, in His infinite wisdom, has called from our midst our beloved William (Bill) James Worthy. William was born in Tallulah, Louisiana on June 16, 1938, to the late Venus Worthy and raised by his grandparents James “Doc” Worthy and Mae Worthy. William, who his parents affectionately called “Red,” attended elementary school while also helping out on the farm where he grew up. William was educated at Reuben McCall High School. While scoring A’s and B’s in academics, William played football and also participated in the marching band as a trumpeter. He graduated from high school May 30, 1957.
Bill moved to Los Angeles and secured a job with the U.S. Post Office. He married and was drafted into the U.S Army. His two children, Rise LaNell Worthy and John Frederick Worthy were born during this time. After a successful military tour of duty, Bill worked for Pac Bell Phone Company and retired after 25 years of service. Still feeling ambitious, Bill started and operated his own construction company that flourished. He later joined Johnson Controls Inc. where he worked for several years. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Vivian Fayette Lincoln. Bill and Viv bought their home and settled in Mission Hills, CA where he lived until his death on February 25, 2015.
Anyone who knew Bill, knew how much he loved Las Vegas and the neighboring casinos around Los Angeles that he often visited. He enjoyed attending parties and gatherings with his friends, and traveling when he could with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Three children– Rise Worthy Deamer, John Worthy, and Amber R. Logan ( Vivian’s daughter). Seven grandchildren– Miles, Christian, and Pierce Deamer, Siena and Drew Worthy, and Aliya and Raniece Logan. Best friend, Gene Rodgers. Other friends including Gwen Rodgers, David and Mary Henderson, Trula Worthy Clayton, Jacqueline Louissaint, and many others. He will always be remembered as a kind and generous person who loved life.
