Efrain Ayala Gonzalez

Efrain came with his family to Reynosa as a young child and spent his early years in Weslaco, Texas where he helped his mother in her restaurant located on Texas Blvd. He attended Academia Hidalgo in Reynosa Tamps where he studied bookkeeping. He enjoyed recalling the stories from his high school days where he gained lifelong friends. He moved to McAllen, Texas with his wife where he worked for many years as a cook and restaurant manager IHOP located on south tenth McAllen. After retiring, he enjoyed attending to his vegetable garden, maintaining his yard and woodworking. He took pride in making handmade furniture such as tables and bookcases. He loved spending time outdoors and socializing with the neighbors. He enjoyed the sport of boxing, and he proudly boasted he knocked out several opponents. His pastimes included watching boxing matches, cooking his famous dishes (chicken popcorn, hotcakes, salsa) and spending time with his family. At one point of his life, he participated and enjoyed the fellowship of his Christian brothers and sisters from RGV Christian Church in Weslaco, Texas where he was also baptized.

He is preceded in death by his mother Claudia Gonzalez and two sisters Graciela Guadalupe Ayala Gonzalez and Maria Teresa Ayala Gonzalez.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Juana Maria Ayala; his stepchild, Antonio Cervantes; and three children: Efrain Ayala, Jr. (Jennifer), Claudia Vela (Edward), and Daniel Ayala. Five step grandchildren Nina Cervantes, Crystal Cervantes, Cesar Cervantes, Marisol Cervantes and Olivia Cervantes. Six grandchildren Li-Ana Ayala, Abrihet Ayala, Arely Vela, Emma Vela, Everly Vela and Edward JR Vela. Four step great grandchildren Ricky Perez, Felix Cervantes, Andrew Rodriguez and Marcela James. He is also survived by various nieces, nephews and friends who lovingly care for him.

Efraín G. Ayala, de 83 años, residente de McAllen, Texas, falleció el 29 de enero de 2026 rodeado de su querida familia. Nació el 4 de agosto de 1942, hijo de Claudia González, en Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.

Efraín llegó con su familia a Reynosa cuando era un niño pequeño y pasó sus primeros años en Weslaco, Texas, donde ayudaba a su madre en su restaurante ubicado en Texas Blvd. Asistió a la Academia Hidalgo en Reynosa, Tamps., donde estudió contabilidad. Disfrutaba recordar las historias de sus años de preparatoria, etapa en la que forjó amistades para toda la vida. Posteriormente se mudó a McAllen, Texas, con su esposa, donde trabajó durante muchos años como cocinero y gerente de restaurante en IHOP, ubicado en South Tenth, en McAllen.

Después de jubilarse, disfrutaba cuidar su huerto, mantener su jardín y trabajar la carpintería. Se sentía orgulloso de fabricar muebles hechos a mano, como mesas y libreros. Le encantaba pasar tiempo al aire libre y convivir con los vecinos. Disfrutaba del deporte del boxeo y con orgullo contaba que había noqueado a varios oponentes. Entre sus pasatiempos se encontraban ver peleas de box, cocinar sus platillos famosos (pollo popcorn, hotcakes y salsa) y pasar tiempo con su familia. En una etapa de su vida, participó y disfrutó de la hermandad de sus hermanos y hermanas cristianos de la Iglesia Cristiana RGV en Weslaco, Texas, donde también fue bautizado.

Le preceden en la muerte su madre, Claudia González, y sus dos hermanas, Graciela Guadalupe Ayala González y María Teresa Ayala González.

Le sobreviven su esposa de 59 años, Juana María Ayala; su hijastro, Antonio Cervantes; y sus tres hijos: Efraín Ayala Jr. (Jennifer), Claudia Vela (Edward) y Daniel Ayala. Cinco nietos políticos: Nina Cervantes, Crystal Cervantes, César Cervantes, Marisol Cervantes y Olivia Cervantes. Seis nietos: Li-Ana Ayala, Abrihet Ayala, Arely Vela, Emma Vela, Everly Vela y Edward Jr. Vela. Cuatro bisnietos políticos: Ricky Pérez, Félix Cervantes, Andrew Rodríguez y Marcela James. También le sobreviven varios sobrinos, sobrinas y amigos que lo cuidaron con mucho cariño.
