This world lost a great man, José Valentín Garza, he transitioned to heaven on July 30, 2024 from complications of diabetes, CHF, COPD and Kidney failure, he was 75 years young. I could not have asked for a better person to guide me through life. I will miss him dearly and my heart will ache forever. He spent his entire life in McAllen. My father was an avid guitar player, loved his music and playing his guitar any chance he got to perform, he was there. He loved working outside on his yard and around the home. He was a jack of all trades, and a master of none. My father was a fashionista, and was a very colorful character-he owned many pair of pants, and each one included his trademark, a red rose on his pant leg. He was very funny, wise, stern, and grumpy, but above all a kind, giving person who would give you his last dollar. He would greet every person he came across with a smile. He was a faithful servant of God and attendant Our Lady of Perpetual Help every Saturday and he would arrive an hour early just to get his favorite seat and reflect on his life. He was an active member many years ago with the matachines at Saint Joseph, the Worker church. He loved his 2 cats and birds. He was a collector of many many things. He loved his little sisters dearly, Elvia Saenz, Elva, Garza, Arminda, Escobedo, and his late sister, Araceli Garza Cantu. A special thank you to Rosie Trejo for being by his side and supporting him the last few years.
And an honorary mention to Ana Luisa Bocanegra Palomares. She is my best friend and was always there when my dad or I needed her. She would go out of her way to help my father. She would take him out to eat once a month, she would buy him medications when he was too sick to drive. She never once said no. My father considered her his second daughter, he loved her like one.
I will miss his daily calls and words of encouragement.
He leaves me behind with a broken heart, his daughter Lisa Wilson( Michael Wilson), his granddaughter Imani Wilson “Imanini,” his grandson Anival Garza, and his 2 great granddaughters, Luna and Isla. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 50+ years Mary Lou Garza, his beloved son, Valentín Gerardo Garza and his beautiful little sister, Araceli Garza Cantu.
