

Jose was born on April 12, 1933 in Alice, Texas. He was united in marriage to Sagrario Gonzalez on May 28, 1956, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas.
Sergeant Jose L. Perez; honorably served in the United States Army from June 1953 to May of 1955, was stationed in Japan, and was a Korean War Veteran. He continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve until May 1961. After the military service his work experience included Welding Manufacturing in his home towns of Alice and Brownsville and spanned throughout South Texas. He was diligent in his work career that ranged from welding manufacturing of schools, Eagle International buses, boats and Whataburger Restaurants. He also worked as a Welding Instructor, and as an Inspector for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency.
When Jose wasn’t working; he enjoyed fishing, grilling barbeque and spending time with his family. He enjoyed telling stories, laughter and playing jokes. He loved his many pets; to include his last dog, Oscar, who brought Jose great joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Librado Perez, Sr. and Antonia Luna Perez; daughter, Virginia van Domselaar; sisters, Josepha Medellin, Elodia Solis, and brothers, Ramon and Librado Perez, Jr. Jose is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sagrario G. Perez, his daughters; Oralia Perez Cantu; Barbara P. Perez; Laura M. McNulty (Mike); Jo Ann Perez Baiz (Sergio); and Sandy Liza Andaverde (Mario). Sisters in law include; Alma Flores and Gracie Perez. Son in laws of the family have included Arturo R. Cantu and Gilbert Salinas. Jose’s grandchildren include; Sarah Salinas Lorenzo (George); Alina O. Vera (Donato, Jr.); Daniel M. Salinas (Adrienne); Frank Cassidy (Emma); David R. Cantu, Sergio Romeo Baiz, Linda McNulty Perez, Felicia M. Pina (Juan); and Alicia M. McNulty. His great grandchildren include; Donato Joseph Vera, Dante Reymundo Vera, Max Cassidy, and Marcos Salinas.
Jose was an embodiment of perseverance, who worked hard to provide for his family a good home, and a better education for his daughters. His lessons from life, along with his humor, will be missed and cherished by his loved ones.
A visitation for Jose will be held Monday, October 14, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 3611 North Taylor Road, Mission, Texas 78573. A Rosary will occur Monday, October 14, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 3611 North Taylor Road, Mission, Texas 78573. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2201 Martin Ave, Mcallen, Texas 78504. A burial and military honors will occur Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Rd, Mission, TX.
