

McAllen—Mervin Eugene "Sonny" Headley, 92, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, in McAllen, TX. He was born on October 23, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky to Mervin Eugene Headley Sr. (WWI pilot) & Viola Genewein Headley and raised in McAllen Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Louis Mae Hawkes (Bill).
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Charlene Worcester Headley, children; Janice Lofton, Suzanne Beatty (John-deceased), Rhonda Hunt (Dean) Ginger Obst (David), 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren & step-son Curtis Roberson from previous marriage, nephews Dr.Jim Briggs, William Briggs, & niece Debbie Briggs.
Mr. Headley was honorably discharged from the US Army where he served as corporal, jeep driver, and medic. He then proceeded his education at UTPA; & attended Pacific Union California. Mr. Headley was a hardworking farmer and real estate agent. He also enjoyed flying as a commercial and instrument rated pilot.
Sonny worked hard and played even harder! He enjoyed nature, traveling, fishing, bowling, and staying in shape. He was a motorcycle and car enthusiast, on his spare time enjoyed restoring old cars. He is a Motorcycle Texas State Enduro Champion. He enjoyed riding in the mountains of Mexico and the Baja California.
Mr. Headley touched the lives of so many people. He had a good outlook on life, he was an inspiration and mentor to many young men and will be missed dearly by numerous family and friends.
