Velma Valverde, beloved sister and daughter entered into eternal rest on July 16, 2020 surrounded by her immediate family.
Velma was born in Mission Texas, graduated from Mission High School in 1978, and attended University of Texas in Edinburg (UTPA) where she earned both music degree in 1985, as well as her degree in nursing in 1991. She was a Registered Nurse and devoted herself fully to caring for patients of all ages throughout the Valley for over 30 years.
Velma had a passion for opera, classical music and literature. She enjoyed travel, particularly to Italy where she studied and lived in the late 80s. She was a devoted Catholic who spent a great deal of time in her parish when she was not caring for her patients. Most of all, she enjoyed life with her family and her beloved pets.
Velma is survived by her brother Victor V. Valverde, her sister Valerie Valverde and sister in law Susan Valverde. Velma was preceded in death by her father Trinidad M. Valverde and her mother Ludivina Valverde. She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, her love for animals, appreciation for music, and her deep faith in God.
Velma belonged to St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Pharr, TX, and donations in her memory can be made to the church in lieu of flowers. Velma’s memory can also be honored by supporting activities that help advance the goals of early detection, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer.
