Veronica Gutierrez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2025. Born on August 8, 1953, Veronica lived a life rooted in love, strength, and deep devotion to her family.
She shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, José, whom she met at a party when they were young. Together, they built a beautiful life full of laughter, memories, and hard work. Veronica proudly worked alongside José, helping run their multi-faceted family business and supporting him every step of the way. Whether working together or enjoying a meal and a movie, they treasured their time side by side.
Veronica was a devoted wife and a fiercely loving mother. She was the embodiment of patience and forgiveness. Her heart was generous, her spirit nurturing, and her presence comforting. She led by example, teaching her daughters how to be strong, compassionate mothers. She stood by her family through every challenge, including supporting her daughters during their respective battles with cancer. Veronica herself was a cancer survivor, having overcome it 30 years ago with incredible strength. She faced both that journey and her final days with courage, faith, and grace. Even in her final days, her innate instinct to prioritize the care of those around her shone brightly, illuminating her selfless heart.
She found joy in swimming, cooking, and traveling, making cherished memories on trips to Alaska, Colorado, the Caribbean, and New Mexico. She loved collecting rocks wherever she went—small keepsakes that reflected her appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. The holidays were especially meaningful to her, and her famous broccoli and rice casserole will forever be a family favorite and a reminder of her warmth.
Veronica adored her grandchildren. She loved them deeply and made it a priority to celebrate, support, and spend time with them. She also cherished her extended family and especially treasured the close bond she shared with her sister, Sandra—whether they were shopping, running errands, or just enjoying each other’s company.
Veronica leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. She cared for her family until the very end, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jose Horacio Gutierrez; her daughters, Casey (Steve) Torello and Andrea (John) Worrell; her siblings, Sandra Mirza, George Trevino, Mark Trevino, and Eric Trevino; nine grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Teofilo and Maria Zenorina Trevino.
A memorial service will be held at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a rosary at 12:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will follow on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, with burial at Palm Valley Memorial.
