One of the greatest to ever teach at Cathedral!

I woke up early yesterday thinking of Brian and pondering what I could say to honor our close friend who over our time together as neighbors managed to become more like family.  Then PIANO MAN pops into my head. How  do I share what he meant to our family, friends and neighbors of Sylvan Oaks? Do I tell a story or a Brian anecdote, as we all have some memorable ones: Brian bringing flooring for kindling at an impromptu s’mores night in the cul-de-sac, a faux pas with a fig tree despite his best of intentions, Friendsgiving games and fireball shots, showing up at Ladera Board meetings just to support his friend,  a flip flops guy with the occasional Emmy painted toes, the fun flip-cup KING who admittedly, through much praise, took a back seat, as we all do on our block, to his QUEEN and the world’s best flip-cup player Ally. 
Do I share the always present laugh (a beacon for all to pinpoint his location)as he strolled our neighborhood daily with his wagon in tow,  holding  his most precious cargo (EMMY AND OLLIE). The doting dad!
Brian hanging a right on Roycroft, daily, with the intent to brighten our days with his presence (a wonderful movie seared permanently into our memories). Brian was no doubt the Pied Piper of Sylvan Oaks.
“Sing us a song, you’re the piano man…we’re all in the mood for a melody and you’ve got us feelin’ alright.” 
Brian could always tell a wonderful story, Brian made us all feel more joy when he was present, and made us “forget about life for a while.” Brian played us a beautiful melody of life, of his life, that will always be cherished by all that had the good fortune to cross his path, no matter where it was … for me and others it just happened to be as he hung a right at the corner of Bainbridge and Roycroft.  
Thank you for the gifts you brought into our lives in Ally, Emmy,  Ollie and now Hadley and the daily gifts you gave us that are now lasting and cherished memories. CHEERS BRIAN, to a celebration of your life well lived!

Brian Walter David. As an annoying freshmen, I found it way too entertaining that he had three first names. No matter how bothersome I could be, more than any senior should be, he was kind and inviting to me in a way I won't forget. Should've been spending his time enjoying his last year of high school with his own friends, but still took the time to make sure John Lee the freshmen felt like he mattered. I don't remember any other senior from that year, but I remember Brian Walter David. Thank you

Brian was an amazing teacher and colleague.  May his memory be a blessing to all those that knew him.

May the love of so many surround you at this  time and moving forward. Brian was such a kind man and a beloved teacher. His legacy will live on through your beautiful children. My heart grieves for you all.
