Douglas was born in Harrisburg, PA. April 14, 1962 at Polyclinic Hospital Center to Larry and Ramona Bates. He graduated from Susquehanna Township Senior High School in 1980.
He married Gigi Bates (Butler) on May 11, 1993; they were married over 25 years.
Douglas worked as Federal Law Enforcement Officer for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, reading, learning, going to the movies, sailing, swimming, lifting weights and the ocean.
One of the things he really enjoyed was helping others achieve their dreams. In many ways Douglas was a renaissance man who was as comfortable discussing the simple details of life as he was the complexities of international politics. He was extraordinarily well read and for most of his life he read several books per month.
Douglas was a humble man with the heart of a lion.
Douglas was a Veteran of United States Marine Corp where he served honorably for 5 years.
He next went to work for the United States Postal Service where he served as a Postal Police Officer. While working for the USPP he was decorated officer before his retirement. After 911 Douglas went back into law enforcement; and was a decorated Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the Department of Homeland Security in Los Angeles, CA.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
