Nini is a mother of 2 - Marisa and Melody. She has two grandchildren, Marisa's daughter Penelope and son Felix. Marisa, Penelope and Felix along with Husband/Father Josh live in San Jose. When Nini was still healthy enough to travel, we drove up to visit them regularly. After Penelope was born, we went up for New Years Eve to babysit and let Marisa and Josh have a date night. We would do this with Josh's parents who lived nearby and had so much fun with them every year. Melody lives with husband Justin in Irvine. Nini is the youngest of her brothers and sisters in the Del Rosario family. She has her brother Lito and sister Lottie here in the US. Her sisters Dollie, Farrah and Liling and brother Nanie live in Manila where the family grew up and brother Ganie lives and works in Saudi Arabia.
Nini was a career architect and a very talented one. Though she was adept in many areas, she spent a large portion of her career doing design for health care projects, predominantly new hospital design. Among her specialties was the design of operating rooms, MRI rooms and other highly specialized components of hospitals. We met while working on the UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital in the UCLA campus in Westwood.
Nini loved to travel and was very active and loved sports. Among our travels over the years, I got to experience Amsterdam and portions of the Netherlands, Brussels, Paris, London, Hawaii, Manila and the surrounding areas in the Philippines and many trips to visit my family in Wisconsin and to her brother Lito and his wife Ellie in Seattle, many trips to San Jose to watch her amazing grandchild Penelope (Babbi) entertain us all and much more.
We skied/snowboarded together - we would incorporate trips to Monmouth on our way to or from San Jose and spent one Christmas day there together and got caught in a crazy white out. It was an adventure just getting down the hill and back to the chalet. Her co-workers and her architecture firm Perkins+Will all raved about how fierce a softball player she was. She learned to surf in Honolulu during one of our visits and was a natural. She wanted to learn to golf so we practiced every weekend and local driving ranges for many months and took a long weekend golf trip to Palm Springs where she was amazing for a beginner.
She was so smart and had a lust for life and knowledge and was famous for her prowess in crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, Trivial Pursuit and the like. I couldn't come close to keeping up with her.
She made everything fun, she made everyone around her smile and brought so much joy to everyone. She brought so much happiness to everyone she touched. There is so much to try to recount and share but more than anything, I will always remember how much we laughed and how hard we laughed.
