Franni was raised entirely in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and left there to attend college at Syracuse University and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. She was trained as a legal secretary and paralegal; working in that capacity at various firms in Boston, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, San Mateo and Westlake Village. She ultimately worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad until she retired in 2006. She created the BNSF occupational health filing system and, using that filing system, worked closely with attorneys to produce discovery in litigation.
If you knew Franni, you loved her. She was known for her compassion, her empathy, and her ability to make things grow and flourish - especially her relationships. She was always willing to go above and beyond for her friends and family and she created a warm and loving environment everywhere she went.
She cared deeply for her children and grandchildren with whom she shared a strong relationship. She was known for incredible thoughtfulness, and she would never forget a birthday. Her gifts had extreme sentimental meaning. Known also as Nana by her grandchildren, she took the time to express how proud she was of them by knowing their most current interests and pursuits. Franni thrived when entertaining friends and family. She was an excellent cook; creating culinary dishes that were highly advanced even for the skilled chef. She loved plants and gardening, including fresh herbs she would use in her cooking. She loved nature and in her younger years enjoyed camping in the outdoors and backpacking while volunteering for VISTA from 1972-1973. She appreciated and enjoyed art in all variations and expressions. Franni would plan visits to her favorites exhibits and museums. She loved to travel and experience the diversity of other places and people. Some of her favorite trips included: Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, and Korea. She very much loved cruises, and her trips were extra special with her husband Bob. Franni appreciated fine wine which increased when she lived in the Bay Area so close to the Napa Valley. While living in Annapolis, she spent much time and energy as a caring sponsor host for two midshipmen at the Naval Academy - welcoming them as if they were family because they needed rest, quiet and a taste of home.
Franni was an extremely thoughtful and caring friend to all, with a talent for inclusion and making lasting friends. The world is less bright without her, but the sky is exponentially more beautiful. Loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt. We will forever miss her.
