Francisca Mary “Sica” (Thompson) Feddersen passed peacefully at her home in Dana Point, CA on December 19, 2024 where she had been under the doting care of her daughters, sons and other family. She was an amazing 97 years old and lived her life to the fullest to the end.
Born in Denver, Colorado, she was both a first generation natural-born citizen on her mother’s side and a Daughter of the American Revolution on her father’s side; and proud of both. Her mother and siblings moved to Prescott, AZ for a short time and later settled in Sherman Oaks, CA where Sica attended Dickens St. School and Corvallis High School. After high school, Sica went to Marymount College in Westwood and later taught kindergarten. In 1948 she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Feddersen.
Sica had no greater joy in life than being a mother of 9, grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 22. She was a self-described “mother hen” and the more her brood of 47 children was under her wings the happier she was. It seemed like she was continuously making Halloween costumes, throwing birthday parties, hosting Easter celebrations, Thanksgiving, or Christmas celebration, leading Brownie Troop 151 or Girl Scout troops, or overseeing vacations at Huntington Beach or Lake Tahoe for the 9, or Beach Road for all. Bringing (sometimes dragging) this group together was her passion and her gift to us.
Outside of family, Sica was proud of her part in the establishment and growth of Raymond E. Feddersen CPA which is now Feddersen and Company. As children we remember her actively working in the office and she was integral in making it the successful business it became. She was active in civic work and community activities, volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, being a foster mother (as if 9 children was not enough), volunteering at LAX to care for infants arriving from overseas enroute to their adoptive parents, being active in the DAR, and being a distinguished member and President of Dana Point Women’s Club and Community House.
Sica is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Feddersen, her sister Margaret Thompson, and her brother John Thompson. She is survived by all of her forty-seven children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; her sister Patricia (Thompson) Corbeil; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Though she has physically left us, her presence will endure as long as her powerful influence and the fond memories she leaves are alive in us and in those we pass them on to. Sica’s spirit will continue to thrive beyond her passing and will sustain and comfort us and reminds us of the true meaning of life: love for one another.
We ask that your offerings of sympathy be shared with us at Mass to be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 10 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Dana Point, CA or directed to: The Braille Institute of America or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A celebration of Sica’s life will follow at her home at 1:30 PM
