Gilbert is survived by his wife, Sally, of 44 years, sons, Gilbert, Eric, and David, daughter, Vanessa, grandchildren, Nathaniel Niven and Adalia Trujillo, Mother, Lillian Trujillo, sisters, Toni Jurado, Sylvia Cisneros, Lillian Flores, and Rebecca Cline, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gilbert was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone.
Gilbert married Sally on March 11, 1978. Shortly after, they welcomed their first son, Gilbert Jr., on August 2, 1978. Their second son, Eric, soon followed on November 10, 1979. On June 19, 1982, their daughter, Vanessa, was born and on July 8, 1990, they welcomed their final son, David.
Gilbert attended L.A. trade school for four years and graduated to become a Union Master journeyman painter. In 1982, Gilbert started his career with J.H. Bryant as a painter. He worked as a painter for many years before being promoted to Superintendent in 1999. He enjoyed his position with the company but was forced to retire early, in 2019, due to his health. However, his diagnosis and chemo treatments did not slow him down. After retiring, he spent his time doing side work helping friends and remodeling his late mother-in-law's kitchen. Gilbert was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects, or whatever else people needed him for.
Gilbert enjoyed watching the Discovery and History channels, as well as watching his favorite sports teams: the Lakers, Dodgers, and Cowboys. He loved firing up his grill on the weekends with his family and listening to his favorite tunes. When he had breaks between chemo and scans, he would take small trips to Vegas with his wife. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Adalia and Nathaniel. Gilbert was a family man no matter what life handed him; always wanting to make sure his family was cared for.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all their family and friends for their continued love and support during this difficult time.
A special thank you to the people at Kaiser Hospice in Southern California for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Fairhaven Memorial Services for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
Gilbert’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Fairhaven Memorial in Mission Viejo, California. Reception will follow.
