Joseph Meyers passed away on January 23, 2021 at the age of 61 at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California. He was welcomed to his Heavenly home by his mother, Frances Meyers, his brother, Patrick Meyers, his paternal grandparents, Paul and Viola Meyers, and his maternal grandparents, Reuben and Florence Gray. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Beverly, his two sons, John and Joshua, his father, John F. Meyers and his sister, Barbara Meyers.
Joe was born on December 7, 1959 in San Diego, California to John and Frances Meyers. He attended Oceanside High School and graduated from El Camino High School in Oceanside. He graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Public Administration.
Joe worked for the city of Oceanside, the county of San Diego and the city of Tustin, but he found his true calling when he transferred to the Tustin Police Department as their Emergency Management Coordinator. While at Tustin, Joe initiated and implemented their successful CERT program, was integral in the design of the police department’s Emergency Operations Center and developed the emergency plan for the city.
In 1978, at the age of 18, Joe was cruising Valley Parkway in Escondido, when he met a sweet, shy, 17 year old girl, Bev, who he was immediately smitten with. Little did he know that he had met the love of his life and that just six (short) years later she would become his wife. Another six years passed and they had their first son, John and four years later, they completed their happy family with the addition of their second son, Josh.
In his spare time, Joe loved visiting with his parents, talking politics with his dad, watching baseball, attending Spring Training every year, visiting Maui, reading about the military - especially anything related to the United States Marines, reading about WWll history, observing the night skies, holding family game nights and enjoying movies with his family. Although, he wouldn’t often admit it, Joe loved his two family dogs, Dug and Ellie.
At this time, the family will not be holding a memorial service due to concerns about the Covid virus. They would like to thank everyone for their love and support in this difficult time.
