Richard Allyn Erickson was born to Ruth and Roy Erickson in Brooten, Minnesota. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Coos Bay, Oregon, where he spent most of his childhood. At the age of 18, Richard enlisted in the navy and was stationed in Long Beach, CA. He served from 1954-1957 on the USS Leonard. F. Mason (DD852).
While stationed in Long Beach, he became reacquainted with the Liens, who had recently moved from Minnesota to Redondo Beach, CA. Soon Richard fell in love with Geraldine, the eldest daughter of Ed and Hazel Lien. Richard and Gerry were married on November 27, 1958.
Richard is survived by his wife Gerry, two sisters: Carleen and Janice, three daughters: Darla, Cheryl, and Brenda, seven grandchildren: Nathan, Jessica, Brandon, Breeann, Bethany, Bryant, and Olivia, and twelve great-grandchildren: Andrew, Noah, Emma, Jaxon, Emberly, Norah, Bennett, Sadie, Oliver, Hazel, Ethan, and Rowan.
Richard’s favorite pastimes included time with family and friends, woodworking, gardening, carving, camping, fishing, and shuffleboard. He loved puttering around in the garage, going for drives, being in nature, helping at church, going to food buffets, talking Donald Duck to his grandkids, and helping others. He loved Jesus and served Him faithfully.
