Matthew (“Matt”) Wayne Oliver, age 67, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. Born December 30, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, Matt was the son of Louise Thomas and Robert Oliver. He was raised in King George, Virginia, and later made Texas his home for the remainder of his life, residing in Missouri City, Texas. Matt will be remembered for his strong personality, the memories he shared with those who knew him, and the steadfast love he held for his family.
Matt dedicated many years to the newspaper industry, working with the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News. He built a career in publishing and production operations, earning respect through a strong work ethic, steady leadership, and the enduring friendships he formed along the way.
Away from work, Matt found deep joy in time spent outdoors and on the move—hunting, fishing, cruising, camping in the mountains, and traveling with friends and family. Some of his happiest moments were shaped by open skies, new places, and the simple gift of being alongside the people he loved most.
Matt is survived by his daughters, Amanda Dooley and husband Trent Dooley, and Briana Gilkes and husband Jeff Gilkes; his grandchildren, Tucker Dooley and Peyton Gilkes; his brother, Bobby Oliver, and wife Kay Oliver; along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Matt also shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, Maddie and Tara, who were truly like his children and brought him comfort, companionship, and unconditional love throughout the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held as a come-and-go gathering for family and friends to honor and remember Matt. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
