Alexander Beach Dix Jr., 82, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019, in his home in Mobile from complications resulting from pancreatic cancer. He was born and raised in Mobile, the son of Alexander Beach Dix, Sr, and Alice Webb Dix. He was married to Linda Barrett Dix for fifty-four years and was widowed in 2012. He is survived by his brother, Lell Daniel Dix, and his four children, Daniel Beach Dix, Mark Alexander Dix, George David Dix, and Linda Elizabeth Al-Rakan.
Beach worked on the line crew for Alabama Power, and then worked as an instrument man for International Paper Company for almost a decade. For several years, he worked as a building contractor, constructing houses, and building cabinets. He returned to college and graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1978 with honors, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked for a consulting engineering firm and eventually returned to International Paper Company and remained for nineteen years as a mechanical engineer, retiring when the Mill closed in 2001.
Alexander Beach Dix, Jr., was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He exemplified the Psalm which says, “The fear of the Lord is clean, …” and sought to honor God throughout his life span. He walked his faith by example. He was a gifted teacher, teaching Sunday school for many years at the churches he attended. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
The Dix family would like to express gratitude to Mike and Amy Bridges for their unwavering loyalty and friendship over the years of Beach’s life.
