Ann Hermes Underhill Brandt, age 83, passed away Tuesday, November 19th, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Clayton, Missouri and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, Ann was a long time resident of Mobile. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph Brandner Brandt; her children Joanne U. Brandt (Edmund Burkett), Michael J. Brandt, Richard S. Brandt, and Barbara A. Brandt (William Larson); and grandchildren Heather Britnell (Joshua), Matthew Brandt, Alan Brandt (Sarah Elizabeth), Margaret Larson, and Emma Larson.
Ann was always an independent thinker with an open mind and caring heart; and loved being with young people. She loved music, literature and cinema and fostered these interests in her family and friends. As a career Air Force officer's wife, she was active in many military family activities, including serving as president of Toastmaster's Club and editor of the Officer's Wives Club newsletter, and was actively involved with the Junior Teen Club, cub scouts, girl scouts and softball/little league teams. After she and Joe moved to Mobile, she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and sang in the church choir for many years. Over the years she also worked in real estate, and volunteered with the community Help Line counseling service, adult literacy programs, and political campaigns. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
The family wishes to extend their gratification to her care-giver, Juanita Richardson, for her loving care and friendship.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Thursday, December 5th. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606.
