Anna was born on October 5, 1928, the 10th of 12 children born to Valzora Miller and Silas Randolph Foster. She graduated from Tanner Williams school in 1945 and then Livingston State Teachers College in 1948. Anna dedicated her life to the public education profession. She later earned her Masters Degree at University of South Alabama and her PhD in Education from Auburn University. Anna’s entire career was in public education serving in the Mobile County school system as an English Teacher, school Principal, English Supervisor, Area Superintendent and finally Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Mobile County. In these positions Anna positively impacted the lives of many young students as well as other educational professionals. She retired in 1995.
On December 10, 1949, Anna married Billy Clausen. Their first apartment had no heat so at night Anna would curl up in bed close to Billy to stay warm. Because of this habit Billy nicknamed Anna “Panda Bear” and for the rest of their marriage Anna was affectionally known to Billy as “Panda”. Billy Clausen passed in 2014 at the age of 89.
Anna and Billy had three children. Anna is survived by two children Jana Renegar Clausen (Randy) and William Drew Clausen (Joanne). She is predeceased by her daughter Laura “Tinker” Clausen-Davis. Anna was blessed with nine grandchildren: Michael Renegar (Caye), Kelly Clausen, Christopher Clausen (Katie), Ashley Clausen Abby (Keith), Devin Clausen, Carolyn Joanne “CJ” Clausen, Conner Davis (Sophie), Dillion Davis and Logan Davis and seven great-grandchildren, Gavin Renegar, Gabe Renegar, Colette Clausen, Quinn Clausen and Calvin Clausen, Saoirse Davis and Conan Davis. No family could ask for greater, more loving mother and “Nonie” than Anna.
For all her professional successes, when asked what her greatest accomplishment might be the answer was always, “Raising you three kids”. Anna had one great wish for all her family and that was to, “Love God, Love Each Other and Be Happy!!!”. The family will do our best to fulfill Anna’s wish.
