
Arthur Prince - a native and life long resident of Mobile, died Friday, January 13, 2012, at home. He was educated at Yerby School, Barton Academy and graduated from Murphy High School in 1942. After one year at the University of Alabama, Arthur entered the United States Army and served for two and a half years, mainly in the European Theater of Operations with the 44th Infantry Division. Upon his discharge, he enrolled in and graduated from Georgia Tech. After three years of apprenticeship, he was registered as an architect by the State of Alabama and became a founding partner of DPF Architects in 1953 until his retirement in 1997. Active in many organizations, he served as President of the Alabama Council of A.I.A., Mobile Association of Architects, Mobile Association of Retarded Citizens, Federation of Jewish Charities and the Southwest Alabama Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board. He was an officer/board member of Springhill Avenue Temple, Mobile County Board of Adjustment, Jewish Children’s Home Service, Kiwanis Club of Mobile, Habitat for Humanity and the Sacred Heart Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor. He is survived by his wife, Venetia Barney Prince; stepdaughters, Venetia Danner Rainer and Vivian Rainer Harmon; granddaughter, Mary Danner Harmon; grandson, Thomas H. Harmon III; brother, Marvin Prince; and many nieces, nephews and their spouses and children. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2012, at Springhill Avenue Temple at 1769 Springhill Avenue. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Springhill Avenue Temple Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Springhill Avenue Temple, the Sacred Heart Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Mobile Association of Retarded Citizens or charity of your choice.
