

Aurelia Grey Gibson Winstead “Dimples” – Quietly slipped into the joy of her Lord, surrounded by her family members, at her son’s home on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Dimples was born on October 1, 1916, in Nanaflia, AL to Sarah Vermille Compton and Frances Wilborn Gibson. She grew up in Mobile and was active in her church. She also loved swimming and diving, and was on the swim team at Murphy High School where she graduated in 1934. After graduation, Dimples attended Hufsteller Business College and went to work with the Selective Service in 1941. In 1944, she married Marvin Lee Winstead. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 24, 1994. After working for the Draft Board, Dimples went to work at Brookley Air Force Base where she retired in 1969. In 1991, she received a Citation from President Clinton for her work at the Draft Board. Dimples attended Cottage Hill Baptist Church after moving to Cottage Hill in 1960. She attended the Loving Kindness Sunday School Class and had been a member of the Seniors Adult Choir. She was also active in the NARFE and AARP. She enjoyed being involved in the Murphy High School Class of 1934. She was an expert cook and will be remembered by her family and friends for numerous culinary delights. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin L. Winstead; her sisters, Miriam G. (Harvey) Hill, Myrl G. (Homer) Horton; and her brother, Frank C. (Anna Mary) Gibson. She is survived by two children, Marvin Lee “Buddy” (Barbara) Winstead and Marlene W. (James) Lowing; five grandchildren, Anna D. (Ronald) Hartley, Sarah E. Dunham, Jessica R. Winstead, Michelle O. (Jimmy) Fields, and Michael W. Ousley; six great-grandchildren, David Hartley, Deanna Hartley, Alyssa Hartley, Erin Hartley, John Fields, and Jamie Fields. A Celebration of Life service will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Monday, November 29, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Fred Wolfe and Rev. Joel Faircloth officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Soloist is Ed Keyes, and pallbearers are Glenn Martin, Sam Douglas, Bruce L. Vest, John D. Griffin, Myron Griffith, and Joe McDonald.
