Barbara Swann Price

Barbara was the daughter of H.O. Swann and Mary Perry Swann. She was born in Atlanta on November 19, 1935, and lived in Decatur, GA through her formative years. After graduating from high school, Barbara received a scholarship and attended Oglethorpe University. When the Mississippi Tax Commission employed her father, the family relocated to Jackson, Mississippi. Barbara enrolled at Millsaps College where she met the love of her life, Roy Price, Jr. Following her graduation from Millsaps, Barbara earned her Master of Education from George Peabody College (Vanderbilt).

On July 19, 1958, she married Roy Price, Jr. During their married life, Roy and Barbara lived in Columbus, Jackson, Alexandria and settled in Mobile, Alabama in 1974. Barbara’s primary vocation was as a loving wife and mother. Barbara was an active parishioner of St. Dominic Parish and St. Edmunds by the Sea Catholic Church. Barbara also worked for MCPSS as an elementary educator and retired in 1995.

Barbara’s greatest accomplishment was her family. She was affectionately known as Granny, and shared her love of life with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Her favorite pastime was watching a Dauphin Island sunset surrounded by loved ones. Barbara had a smile that would light up the room and a gentle touch that could dry any tear. Everyone who knew her will miss her.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years Roy Price, Jr., her children Elizabeth O’Shea, Roy Price III (Susan), Andrew Price (Leigh) and Thomas Price (Karen). She is also survived by her brother Henry Osmond Swann, Jr. (Carol), 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on April 4, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Parish followed by a Burial Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Dauphin Island Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home.
