Betsy Powell McIlwain

Betsy Dean (Powell) Mcilwain of Saraland, Alabama passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Betsy was born on September 27, 1938, in Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents James Frank Powell and Lue Alice (Shoemate) Powell; the love of her life Harold Lavon Mcilwain; her brother Belford Wren Powell and sister in law Doris (Langham) Powell. She is survived by her children Yvonne (Dennis) Portwood of Kennesaw, Georgia and Valerie (David) Taylor of Saraland, Alabama. She was blessed with two grandchildren; Evan Portwood and Alex Portwood of Kennesaw, Georgia. She is survived by her sister Mardy P. Baugh of Mobile, Alabama; her brother Marion (Nita) Powell of Spring, Texas; brother in law Dr. Ronald (Sharon) Mcilwain of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and friends. She was a graduate of Vigor High School; was a wonderful sister, very dedicated mother and talented seamstress. She was adored and loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 717 Cleveland Rd., Saraland, Alabama, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Following the Memorial Service a Celebration of Life will take place in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
