Mrs. Betty Jean (Moore) Grissett, age 86, longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Grissett and daughter, Teresa Rylee; parents, John and Marietta Moore, step-mother, Mary Lou Moore and brother, Ralph Moore.
Betty was born in Lamar County, AL. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 11 at Union Baptist Church in Beaverton, AL. She loved serving her Lord and was always a faithful servant who always helped anyone in need. She was blessed with many special friends, whom she loved dearly, especially her closest friends, Virgie Reed and Brenda Thompson, who always brought her joy.
Betty graduated from Sulligent High School and worked in retail and finished her career at West Mobile Baptist Child Development Center. She worked hard all of her life and always put others first. Her kindness and gentle nature will always be remembered. Her love for her family was evident in her everyday life.
Mrs. Grissett is survived by her children; James (Kim) Grissett, Barbara (Frankie) Shuford and Louise (Terry) Bacon, and son-in-law, James “Sonny” Rylee. She is also survived by her sisters, Carolyn (Denver) Nichols, Lou Ann Cantrell, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many other dear and special family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Westlake Church on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until service time of 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Palestine Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Vaughan Gardner.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Bacon, Lee Grissett, Steve Wiggins, John Shuford, Chris Thompson and Damien Rouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Hamm, Frankie Shuford, Terry Bacon, Sonny Rylee and Denver Nichols.
