A native of Dozier, Alabama and longtime resident of Mobile and Baldwin counties. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Cubert Dunn and Mary Orell Dunn. Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her children, Mike (Kim) Hendrix, Mobile; and Christine (David) Purvis, Saraland; Grandchildren, Charlotte (Jed) Barbour; Ethan Hendrix and Garrett Purvis; her husband of 33 years, Charles Hendrix; Brothers; Jimmy (Virginia) Dunn; Bennie (Barbara) Dunn; Bill (Vaudie) Dunn; Don (JoAnn) Dunn; Sister; Mary Wallace LaCoste; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was a graduated from Vigor High School in 1956 and continued her education with courses at Spring Hill College and South Alabama. She also graduated from the American Institute of Banking where she also taught several courses. During her years living in Whistler and Mobile, she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and Gulf Hills Baptist Church.
Ms. Hendrix retired as Vice President of AmSouth Bank. During her banking career, she gained a vast wealth of both knowledge and friendships that she cherished so very dearly.
Ms. Hendrix served in a multitude of clubs and organizations throughout her life. Though not all, some were: Mobile Bay Group of the National Association of Bank Women, Alabama Bankers Association, and the American Institute of Banking, the Pilot Club, and the American Business Women’s Association and the International Management Council. Betty was also a member of the Honorary Fellows for the University of Mobile and the founding member of The Epicureans.
She had many honors bestowed upon her during her lifetime by Mayors, Governors and even United States Presidents.
After retirement, she worked as an agent for International Travel & Cruise Center and Prudential Nichols Real Estate. She was also the owner of La Trek Agency. One of Betty’s favorite hobbies was traveling, which took her to places both near and aboard. She was always recalling her travels and friendships made during her journeys.
Her love of cooking will be missed by all. She loved to entertain. She prepared food like a professional chef but with love. Her greatest joy was to see her family and friends enjoying themselves while partaking in the food she had created.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral services in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. and graveside immediately following at Pine Crest Cemetery.
