
The Reverend Brendan Joseph Keller, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Mobile residing in Fairhope, Alabama, died on December 30, 2013. Father Keller was born on May 12, 1934 in Galway, Ireland. He attended elementary and secondary schools in County Galway before entering St. John Seminary in Waterford, Ireland in 1954. He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on June 16, 1960 at the cathedral in Waterford, Ireland, under sponsorship of the Diocese of Mobile. After ordination and arrival in the United States, Father Keller first served as an Assistant to the North Alabama Missions and spent the summer of 1961 as Chaplain at Camp Cullen in Fairhope. In fall 1961 he was assigned as Assistant Pastor to St. Joan of Arc Parish, Mobile and taught Religion at Bishop Toolen High School. In 1967 he became Assistant Pastor to St. Peter Parish, Birmingham and in 1968 was assigned Assistant Pastor to St. Monica Parish, Mobile. In fall 1968 he was appointed Pastor to St. John Parish, Enterprise. In 1977 he was appointed Pastor of St. Columba Parish, Dothan and became the Dean of the Dothan Deanery. He was also named as a Consultor to the Archbishop of Mobile in 1982. In 1985 he was assigned as Pastor of St. Lawrence Parish, Fairhope and remained there for ten years. In 1995 he became Pastor of St. John Parish, Ozark until his retirement on June 10, 1999. Father Keller is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Keller. He is survived by many close friends and former parishioners. Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church on Thursday, January 2, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church on Friday, January 3, at 10 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the mass.
