
Calvin Robert Ellison – an 85 year-old native of Jacksonville, FL and resident of Semmes passed away Monday, November 15, 2010. Mr. Ellison retired from the United States Coast Guard at the rank of chief petty officer after 21 years of service, during which he served on an LST during World War II. He was very involved with the restoration of LST-325 during its stay in Mobile. Mr. Ellison was a member of Life Church. He was instrumental in establishing and served as the fire chief of both the Theodore and Tillman’s Corner Volunteer Fire Departments. In his youth, Mr. Ellison had a recurring role in the “Our Gang” films as a member of Butch’s gang. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pearl Ellison; children, Steve Ellison (Kathy), Candy Hannan (Jim), Debra Hershey (Charles), and Diane Nicholson (Mickey); grandchildren, Mike Stevens, Joe Stevens, Steven Isler, Dan Wilson, Calvin Nicholson, Josh Nicholson, Stephanie House, Melanie Brown, and Crystal Staton; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Life Church of Mobile, 8701 Zeigler Blvd., Mobile, AL 36608.
