

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Dowling on January 30, 2025. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Carol was the beloved daughter of Jim and Myron Baker. She is preceded in death by her brother Larry Baker, whom she lovingly cared for until his final moments in 2020. Carol is survived by her loving sisters, Patricia Perez and Deborah Monday, who will cherish her memory forever.
Carol's legacy lives on through her children, Noell Broughton, J Dowling, and Matthew Dowling. She loved her three boys very much and worked hard her whole life to provide only the best.
Carol attended St. Ignatius School for her early education, attended Convent of Mercy and ultimately graduated from Murphy High School. She pursued higher education at the University of Tennessee, where she became an avid Tennessee Vols fan. She later earned her B.S. in nursing from the University of South Alabama. After a brief period as a nursing assistant at USA hospital, Carol met the love of her life, Hugh Dowling, and they shared a beautiful marriage.
Together, they founded and successfully operated their own landscape and irrigation company (Dowling Environmental, Inc.) for over 20+ years. Carol was a highly talented landscape architect and designer, known for her ability in transforming any location into a beautiful space. She also served as the president of the Alabama Irrigation Association for several years, reflecting her passion and dedication to landscape architecture.
Carol pursued her passion for nursing by joining the ICU team at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley, Alabama, where she dedicated over 13 years to the ICU. Following her time at South Baldwin, she became an exceptional nurse at Springhill Hospital’s ICU team for nearly 8 years. She served as a first responder during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing critical care to patients in the ICU at SpringHill Hospital. Her remarkable skills and compassionate care were frequently praised by both her family and colleagues. Carol was an extraordinary nurse, and her dedication to her patients was unmatched.
Carol treasured her time with family at the beach, eagerly looking forward to their annual family beach vacation. She was passionate about boating, delighting in the moments spent with her loved ones on the water. Carol was a beautiful soul who cared deeply for others, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her kindness, dedication, and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
We will have a celebration of life for Carol on March 8th, 2025 between 1:00-4:00 pm at Grace (555 Dauphin St, Mobile, AL 36602).
