Carol Ann was born on January 13, 1947 in Huntsville, Alabama to George Allensworth Gray and Mary Catherine Gray of Elkmont, Alabama. She lived in Elkmont with her 3 siblings until she left for Gulf Park College in Biloxi, Mississippi. Later joining her future husband, Wallace Jeffery “Jeff” at the University of Alabama.
She was a devoted wife to Jeff, who she met when she was a little girl while taking piano lessons from his mother, Sara Jeffery. They married in Athens, Alabama on September 7, 1968. Shortly after they welcomed their two children Dana and Garner. They later made Mobile, Alabama their home.
Besides being the most wonderful mother, she was the proudest grandmother “Wannie” to her six grandchildren. Always anxious to share their photos and accomplishments with her friends.
Carol Ann was a four-year-old preschool teacher at Westminster Presbyterian for over 20 twenty years. She cherished those years and she would frequently talk about the children she taught years after she remembered a funny story.
Her number one passion was playing tennis. She would captain multiple teams at a time taking many to the state level. She loved all her tennis friends and she had so much fun on the court. She was also an amazing cook. She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes with her family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband Jeff, daughter Dana McClinton, son Garner (Virginia) Jeffery, her grandchildren, Mary Catherine McClinton, Annie Jeffery, Charlie Jeffery, Sam Jeffery, Jeanie Jeffery and Henry Jeffery. Her Siblings Becky (Ray) Miller, Bess Soper and George (Porter) Gray and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Our heartfelt thanks go to those who cared for her at Ashland Place Health and Rehab and the ICU nurses and doctors at Mobile Infirmary.
The Celebration of her life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 with visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 and service at 1:30 p.m.
