Dearest Judy,
       I went to Station 18 this evening to put up Kenny’s Christmas tree in his memory and found out about Charlie’s passing. I was in disbelief! I had no idea and was so saddened to find this out. I wish I had known and I would have certainly been there for you.  I have thought so many times about calling y’all since Kenny passed away….
       I think Charlie and Kenny had a close relationship and I know Kenny held him in high regard. They had a great group at 18 back then ….they were truly like family to each other. I hope to talk to you soon. I am so sorry and send deepest sympathy….

Condolences to the family, sorry I couldn’t make the funeral. I first met Charley when we played softball together. I was 19 or 20. That was over 50 years ago. When I came on the fire department he was more than a friend. Always helpful and encouraging. Great guy, athlete and fire chief. He was also a fine family man and Christian. I pray we meet again someday. Rest in peace,  my friend.

Dear Judy and sons:

First let me offer you my deepest condolences on your loss.   Due to circumstances beyond my control I will not be able to attend. I have never sent anything like this but because I’m not able to attend, there are a few things I would like to express. 
I am still in the fire service today and after all these years, there is still one constant and that is that everything I learned about the fire fighting business I learned from one man, whether it was fire fighting tactics or decision making; that man was Charlie. He was there when I was a twenty year old hot-head that did some really dumb twenty year old things but he set me straight.  He saved my job, probably more than once. 
I’m not sure if the MFRD realizes what Charlie meant to so many fire fighters. There will never be anyone in the fire service that was respected by fire fighters more than Charlie. He is and always will be the guy that epitomizes the word ‘Fire Fighter’.  God bless you and your family at this very difficult time.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey and Helen Sewell Bolling; brothers, George Dewey Bolling, Jr., John R. Bolling, Vance Glen Bolling; sisters, Annie Evelyn Brown, Carrie Mae Bolling Hurst, Charlotte Marie Bolling and Theresa Slade Kerr.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife, Judy A. Phillips Bolling; sons, Bart A. Bolling and John Dewey (Patty) Bolling; grandson, Mason Charles Bolling; brother, Fr. Joseph M. Bolling, also, survived by a niece, nephews and other relatives and friends.
