May 13, 1931 - June 16, 2016 Charles George Gillespie, 85, of Mobile, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2016. Mr. Gillespie was a true patriot from birth, retiring from the United States Air Force after twenty three years, during which he served in the Vietnam War. He was a military man, a family man, a wonderfully happy person. He provided very well for his family. Mr. Gillespie was a fan of flying radio air planes. He also spent much of his time working with his hands, enjoying hobbies such as wood carving. He was very loved and will be missed incredibly. Mr. Gillespie was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Frances Kennedy Gillespie; and his parents, Peter and Lena Gillespie. He is survived by his sons, David (Analyn) Gillespie, Jeff Gillespie, and Gary (Judith) Gillespie; three granddaughters, Bridgett, Sara, and Veronica Gillespie; and three sisters, Shirley, Anne, and Jeannie. Visitation for Mr. Gillespie will be Monday, June 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway. Services will be at 11 a.m. at St. Dominics Catholic Church, with committal to follow at Pine Crest West Cemetery.
