Colleen went to her gracious Heavenly Father on October 3, 2025, through faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her family.
Colleen devoted her life to her Lord, her family, and church music. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 26, 1936, to Charles and Marcella Cummings. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Bergdolt, in 1959. For more than 50 years, they served together as musicians in congregations in Ohio, Kentucky, and Alabama. Colleen was an exceptional organist. Beginning in 1970, she remained at Kenneth’s side as he served 40 years as a music and arts professor at Mobile College (later University of Mobile). Together, they established and produced an annual Boar’s Head Festival at the College. They introduced students to the great works and led them on domestic and European tours. They also secured independent academic accreditation for the music school from the National Association of Schools of Music. The University and countless students and staff were blessed by Colleen’s unfailing, affirming spirit. Colleen was a joy.
Colleen is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers, Charles (Janet) Cummings, Jr., and Lawrence (JoAnn) Cummings. She is survived by her sons, Erich (Stephanie) and Jeff (Jan) Bergdolt; her grandchildren, Charlie (Michaela) Bergdolt, Abigail (William) Conner, John (Estefania) Bergdolt, Elizabeth Colleen (fiancé, Alex) Bergdolt, and Bailey (fiancée, Katie) Bergdolt; great grandchildren, Kenneth, Charleston, and Azariah Bergdolt, and nieces and nephews, Cathy (Kevin) Davis, Charles (Peggy) Cummings, Carolyn (Mike) St. John, Kathy (Jim) Barnum, Marlene (Ted) Sauer, Polly (Loren) Defillipo, Meg (Don) Freeze, Jenny (Mike) Jones, Sally (Rick) Helmchen, Larry (Mary Beth) Cummings, Patty Cummings, and Lynda Cummings.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM from the Moorer Auditorium at Martin Hall at the University of Mobile Campus. A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
