

David L. Ellis, Sr. passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023, at the age of 91 in the presence of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Narvie Lee and Bertha Ellis, and his first wife of 63 years, Betty Moorehead Ellis. He was a native of Pensacola, Fl. but lived most of his life in Mobile. He was a graduating member of the Murphy High School class of 1949. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He went to work for International Paper Co. in 1954 and retired as the Corporate manager for MRO Purchasing in 1992 after 38 years of service.
He was presently an active member of Woodridge Baptist Church after attending and serving some 50 years at First Christian Church.
Dave was a kind man who loved his family and cherished his friends. He was also a generous person and enjoyed helping others. He often referred to the following as his addictions: their motor home, Alabama Football, watching NASCAR, calling square dances (back in the day). Over the years he and Betty Ann enjoyed travelling and in their RV.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories Wife, Clara L. Ellis; two sons, David (Karen) Ellis and Mike Ellis; two grandsons, Kyle Bradford Ellis and Todd (Candace) Ellis; great grandson, James Tucker Ellis; step daughters, Sherry Gulley, Kay Jarrett and Dodie Brown.
Funeral Services will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 with visitation at 11:00 and funeral services at 1:00. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family request any memorials be addressed to their favorite charity, St. Jude was one of his.
