Denise Le Anne Hodges, 57, unexpectedly left us on March 7, 2022 as God called her home. Denise came into the world on April 10,1964 as a beautiful ray of sunshine to Woodie and Ann Hodges. Denise passed peacefully at her home in Mobile, Alabama with family around.
Denise had recently ringed the cancer-free bell on December 1, 2021 after her long 7 month battle. Her passing leaves a huge hole in the heart of her family and friends. She touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations. Anyone who knew Denise knew that her family meant everything to her and in her eyes, each of you reading this were family.
Besides her love of family, Denise loved her cats, gardening and dragonflies. Often times you would find Denise outside enjoying the colorful view of the flower gardens she and Ann spent countless hours planting and nourishing. Beautiful pots of lilies, shrimp plants, ferns, trees with cumquats and many others that flourished through her love and time that she put into them. She enjoyed watching the cats jump and play through the flower gardens and would often look for the beautiful dragonflies that would fly by.
Denise attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and graduated in 1982. She then attended the University of South Alabama, where she studied Business. In her early twenties, she moved to Birmingham Alabama where she managed several restaurants and enjoyed the arts the area had to offer. Denise was a collector of antiques and colorful eclectic art. This came as no surprise to anyone as she always enjoyed seeing the beauty in older pieces and the creativeness of eclectic artists. Denise moved back to Mobile after her dad passed to be with Ann and she pursued her passion to help the elderly and women in crisis. She worked at the retirement home, Somerby Place in Mobile and spent many hours working at McKemie Place where she filled her love for giving back.
Denise was the older sibling to Woodie Hodges, Jr. and Ashley (Hodges) LaPointe. But she was more than just a sister, she was a friend. Denise did not have children of her own, but she was a wonderful Aunt to Tyler and Hannah Kate Hodges and Alex and Mattie LaPointe. She always made time to spend with each of them and kept up with all of their individual activities and interests. Denise was a forever fan and always pushed them to be true to themselves and follow their dreams.
Denise is survived by her mother Ann (Blue) Hodges; her brother, Woodie Jackson Hodges, Jr.; his wife, Kelly (Striplin) Hodges; their children; Tyler and Hannah Kate Hodges; her sister, Ashley (Hodges) LaPointe and Jason LaPointe; their children, Alex and Maddie LaPointe; many cousins and friends; and her cat, Callie Hodges. She was preceded in death by her father, Woodie Jackson Hodges, Sr.; her grandparents: James Thomas Hodges, Sr./Claudia Hodges and David Randolph Blue/Mattie Ruth Blue; along with other family members who were there to meet her when she passed.
